Conference Outings

Conference Reception – The opening reception will be on the beach at Port Aransas at 1B Magee Beach. See program for start time. There will be a shrimp boil and bonfire catered by Rollin’ Tide Boil Company ( The boil will include wild caught Gulf Shrimp, corn on the cob, smoked sausage, new potatoes and Vidalia onions. Vegetarian and non-shellfish options will be available. The Reception will include tents, seating, Tiki torches and several beach bonfires. Dessert is traditional and Key Lime S’mores! Music will be provided by Rollin’ Tide. Texas beer and wine, margaritas, water and iced tea will be available.

Tuesday afternoon Field Trip – We will be bused across the bay to Corpus Christi to visit the Harte Research Institute. Lunch will be provided. Following the tour attendees will be bused to downtown Corpus Christi where they can visit several museums and local attractions, including the USS Lexington (, the Art Center ( ), the Art Museum of South Texas (, the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History (, Heritage Park (, the Texas Surf Museum (, the Texas State Aquarium (, Selena Memorial-Mirador De La Flor ( the Tejano Civil Rights Museum ( Dinner on your own will follow and then everyone will take the bus back to Port Aransas.

Friday Field Trip – Friday will be laid-back and fun. We will start the day with a boat trip provided by Dolphin Watch Nature Tours We should see dolphins, pelicans, turtles and perhaps even Whooping Cranes. The tour will include a tour of the bay and floating up to the Lydia Ann Lighthouse. After the tour we will all have a lesson in sand sculpting with a competition between groups for the best sculpture. After the lesson attendees are on their own but can partake in the Beachtoberfest activities or visit the nearby Port Aransas Nature Preserve or the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center.
