{"id":682,"date":"2015-03-14T19:29:17","date_gmt":"2015-03-14T19:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.iamslic.org\/blog\/?p=682"},"modified":"2015-03-14T19:29:17","modified_gmt":"2015-03-14T19:29:17","slug":"cyamus-2015-day-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iamslic.org\/blog\/?p=682","title":{"rendered":"Cyamus 2015 &#8211; Day 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday 3\/14\/15 &#8211; Odegaard Library<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s PI Day!!<br \/>\n<strong>Open Discussion Day<\/strong><br \/>\nLibraries have issues with Wiley. \u00c2\u00a0They have been very devious in negotiating with the Libraries and have not been any nicer to society publishers. \u00c2\u00a0Wiley has outsourced some of the titles such as J Phyc to Aptara. \u00c2\u00a0If you know people in societies that are looking for a publishing platform tell them to avoid Wiley. \u00c2\u00a0It was reported that Wiley is looking to go to a database model where cost is based on use.<\/p>\n<p>Another strategy is to urge researchers to publish elsewhere including Open Access. \u00c2\u00a0We talked up how we would like to be members of such groups as BioMed Central to help defray publication costs and support the OA publishers. \u00c2\u00a0Sadly most budgets are strained trying to pay the bills on our existing subscriptions.<\/p>\n<p>Agree we rely heavily on the Jeffrey Beall list of sketchy OA titles and are appreciative of its existence!!<\/p>\n<p>Discussion on where Cyamus can meet next year. \u00c2\u00a0LaJolla and San Luis Obispo have been offered. \u00c2\u00a0We would like to go to Mexico &#8211; say Ensenada &#8211; as it&#8217;s been years since we&#8217;d been south. \u00c2\u00a0Jeanine will submit a proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Debra Losey showed pictures of the lovely new NOAA Southwest Fisheries Lab in LaJolla and told about the perils of planning and implementation.<\/p>\n<p>Talked about citation management systems and what campuses provided and\/or supported or teach. \u00c2\u00a0Looked at UW&#8217;s comparison page at guides.lib.washington.edu\/citation-tools<\/p>\n<p><strong>Library Linked Data<\/strong><br \/>\nJoan and Eleanor attended a conference where they learned about the Knowledge Card &#8211; the info box that pops up on the Google results page when someone googles your institution. \u00c2\u00a0Talked about where Google draws that information and you actually have control of what appears in the card. \u00c2\u00a0It&#8217;s fascinating and we should assert that control.<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.oclc.org\/en-CA\/publications\/nextspace\/articles\/issue24\/isyourlibraryathing.html<\/p>\n<p>UCD got an IMLS grant to look at linked data. \u00c2\u00a0You can can follow the blog here: \u00c2\u00a0www.carlstahmer.com<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cyamus Public Relations<\/strong><br \/>\nWe need a Cyamus Regional Group Knowledge Card!!!<br \/>\nTalked about the FaceBook page.<br \/>\nNeed an elevator blurb.<br \/>\nRewrote the &#8220;About Cyamus&#8221; section on the regional group webpage.<br \/>\nQuote of the day: &#8220;Cyamus: we are the Walmart of water.&#8221; \u00c2\u00a0We decided, when we picked ourselves up off the laughter strewn floor, that wouldn&#8217;t be our go-to description.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Box Lunch!<\/p>\n<p>Visit to Bullitt Center.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s over! \u00c2\u00a0See ya all next year!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday 3\/14\/15 &#8211; Odegaard Library It&#8217;s PI Day!!
