Annex 6
describes the proposed joint activities for the biennium 2014-2015. It is an updated Annex to the Memorandum of Understanding between IAMSLIC and FAO on Fisheries Information Systems and Services, signed by FAO on 31 January 2005 and by IAMSLIC on 7 February 2005, and it is subject to the same provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding.

Proposed Joint Activities for 2014-2015

  1. Promote the development and use of the Aquatic Commons repository. Participate as members of the Aquatic Commons Board and its Collection Development Working Group to further develop the system and build content. Explore funding opportunities and facilitate participation by developing country members.
  2. Improve coverage of and access to fisheries and aquaculture publications and grey literature from developing countries in the IAMSLIC Z39.50 distributed library system.
  3. Promote collaboration and networking between fisheries and aquatic science libraries by promoting membership in IAMSLIC and supporting IAMSLIC regional groups.
  4. Improve access to fisheries and aquaculture publications and/or metadata from developing countries through increased coverage in the Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) database.
  5. Improve linkages from ASFA to full text open access resources, e.g. FAO fisheries documents in FAO Document Repository (FDR) and records in Aquatic Commons.
  6. Host the 41st IAMSLIC Conference in FAO, Rome, in September 2015 in conjunction with an ASFA Workshop for the European ASFA partners participating in the conference.
  7. Review the status of joint activities for 2014-2015 and produce a draft outline of activities for 2016-2017 biennium.

b)  Improve coverage of and access to fisheries and aquaculture publications from developing countries in the IAMSLIC Z39.50 distributed library system. Explore the development of regional resources sharing mechanisms in Asia. Participate as member of the IAMSLIC Resource Sharing Committee.

FAO-IAMSLIC Annex 3 Review 2008-2009

Joint Activities for 2008-09

a) Improve access to electronic full text fisheries and aquatic science
publications through promotion of internationally accepted standards,
development of local and regional repositories and promotion of Open Access.
In particular, work with institutions with digital repositories that are not
OAI compliant to adopt this standard.

b) Promote the development and use of the Aquatic Commons. Participate
as members of the Aquatic Commons Board and its Working Groups to further
develop the system and build content. Explore funding opportunities and
provide support to ensure full participation by developing country members.

c) Promote integration of AVANO as a discovery tool among the fisheries
and aquatic science sectors.

d) Improve coverage of and access to fisheries publications from
developing countries in the IAMSLIC Z39.50 distributed library system and
development of regional resources sharing mechanisms.

e) Promote collaboration and networking between fisheries and aquatic
science libraries by promoting membership in IAMSLIC, supporting current
IAMSLIC regional groups and encouraging the development of an Asian regional
group of IAMSLIC.

f) Improve access to the metadata of fisheries and aquatic science
publications from developing countries through increased coverage in the
Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) database.

g) Improve linkages from ASFA to full text Open Access resources with a
priority given to FAO fisheries documents.

h) Provide expert user feedback from IAMSLIC to the FAO ASFA Secretariat regarding the database and user requirements.

i) Investigate ways to assess the impact of FAO publications on
fisheries and aquaculture.

j) Review status of joint activities and produce draft outline of
activities for 2010-2011 biennium.
