How to get to FAO Headquarters in Rome from the airport(s)

There are two main airports in Rome: Rome Fiumicino “Leonardo da Vinci” international airport and Rome Ciampino low cost airport. Both are located outside the city, about 45 min away from the city centre. Visit Rome Fiumicino website or Rome Ciampino website for more information.

From Fiumicino Airport

By Taxi

Fixed fare (inclusive of all extra charges) is set for journeys to/from airports as follows:

  • From Fiumicino Airport to City Centre or Ostiense Station and vice versa: €48.00

Taxi license holders are obliged to issue receipts of payment. If you take a taxi, take only licensed taxis with meters (normally a Comune di Roma emblem is on the door). Be wary of people who approach you at airport or train stations offering taxis.

By Train

From “Leonardo da Vinci” International Airport (also referred to as Fiumicino Airport) to FAO Headquarters (the suggested Hotels are also nearby). Trains run approximately every 20 minutes and take about 20-30 minutes to make the trip.

There are two trains, one is a direct or fast train (Leonardo Express) that goes direct (non-stop) from the airport to Rome’s main railroad station called Termini Station and the cost of the ticket is currently (€14). The other train is a local or slow train that makes stops at a number of stations in Rome (e.g. Trastevere – Ostiense – Tiburtina, but it does not go to Termini) and the cost of the ticket is currently €8.

If you take the fast train (Leonardo Express) you get off at Termini station and from there it is only a short taxi ride to FAO and the suggested hotels. There is also a Metro (or Underground – Linea B – Direction Laurentina) going from Termini station to FAO (the FAO Metro stop is called Circo Massimo).

If you take the slow train (FL1 Regional Train) you should get off at the station called Ostiense and from there it is also only a very short taxi ride to FAO and the suggested hotels. There is also a Metro (or Underground) going from Ostiense Metro station (direction Rebibbia or Conco d’Oro) to FAO (the FAO Metro stop is again called Circo Massimo). For your convenience, we suggest you take the taxi from Termini or Ostiense stations to your hotel, especially if you have heavy luggage.
