About the NSU Oceanographic Center and the new Center of Excellence for Coral Reef Ecosystems Research

A world leader in marine biological research with focus on coral reef science and shark conservation, The Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Oceanographic Center has been at the forefront of graduate and undergraduate marine science education and oceanographic research for over 48 years. Students, scientists, faculty and staff come to the Center from all corners of the globe, with the common goal of learning from the ocean’s living classrooms — in one of the most diverse ecosystems known to man.  Located at Port Everglades in Hollywood, Florida, near Fort Lauderdale, the NSU Oceanographic Center spans 10 acres and is home to a large marina, affording immediate access to coastal and open ocean environments and ecosystems.

The new 87,000-square foot, $50 million Center of Excellence for Coral Reef Ecosystems Research (CoE) celebrated its grand opening on September 27, 2012.  Funded in part by a federal NIST grant, the Center provides laboratories and sophisticated scientific equipment, as well as space for research collaboration, training, scuba areas, and fieldwork staging, a marine science library and an 85-seat auditorium. The building’s design promotes research by current and new faculty, researchers, visiting scientists, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate and undergraduate students.  Learn more at: http://www.nova.edu/ocean/
